What to Watch This Weekend

What To Watch This Weekend – It’s Friday evening, and you’ve just finished a long week at work. You want to unwind and relax but are stuck on what to do.

You could go out and socialize, but after a hectic week, you only want to curl up on the couch and watch something. But with so many streaming platforms and options available, deciding what to watch is tough.

Don’t worry! We’ve got you covered with our comprehensive guide on what to watch this weekend.

Whether you’re in the mood for a laugh or a good cry, we’ve got recommendations for everyone. So, please sit back, relax, and let us guide you to the perfect viewing experience.

What to Watch This Weekend: TV Shows

This week, the new series Twisted Metal will slam into Peacock.

The first incentive to check out the series is that this one is, of course, based on the renowned combat vehicle video game that made its debut in 1995 on Sony’s first PlayStation.

Second, it has Anthony Mackie as John Doe, the main character, in what is billed as a “live-action comedy,” obviously leaning into the dark humour that the game has grown to be known for, and it takes place in a post-apocalyptic world — those are currently all the rage.

The third reason to think about this one is Sweet Tooth, everyone’s favourite ice cream truck-driving murdering clown from the game. After all, wonderful things come in threes.

In this instance, pro wrestler Samoa Joe performs the physical acting while Will Arnett provides the voice. Oh, and in case it wasn’t obvious, this is not a book for children.

Where to Watch: Peacock

The Witcher’s season 3, volume 2 launch is another title this week that will lodge its sword in your streaming choices.

There are currently only Henry Cavill’s final three episodes of his run as Geralt of Rivia, which is, of course, the first reason to head over to Netflix and catch up. We’ve already informed you that this is Henry Cavill’s final season in the role before Liam Hemsworth takes over.

Without giving too much away, another reason would be that season 3, volume 1 ended on a cliffhanger, and you’ll probably want to know how it resolves.

In relation to that, volume 1 received a Fresh rating on the Tomatometer of 78%, with critics generally agreeing that it thus far bids “a fittingly fond farewell to this particular Geralt of Rivia.”

Futurama: Season 11 (2023)

Exciting news, everyone! Brace yourselves for the triumphant return of the beloved animated series, Futurama, to your TV screens.

Yes, you heard it right—it’s back… again! Futurama first graced our screens in 1999 on Fox and ran for four seasons. Subsequently, Comedy Central picked it up, blessing us with three more seasons that concluded in 2013.

And now, after a decade-long wait, Futurama is making its way to Hulu, bringing along a promise of at least 20 brand new episodes.

The brainchild of Simpsons creator Matt Groening, Futurama has proven its enduring appeal, drawing back the mastermind himself for this latest installment.

Not only that, but the core voice cast, including Billy West as Philip J. Fry and Katey Sagal as Leela, will be reprising their roles, ensuring that the essence of the show remains intact.

Adding to the excitement, the series boasts an impressive Audience Score of 94%, speaking to the unwavering affection fans have for it. Moreover, the seasons that have received enough reviews for a Tomatometer score—four of them—are all deemed “Certified Fresh.”

The show’s debut season, in particular, continues to shine as a testament to its inventiveness, humor, and occasionally touching glimpses into the world of tomorrow.

So, get ready to embark on another intergalactic adventure with Futurama, as it returns to entertain both devoted fans and new viewers alike. With fresh episodes on the horizon, the allure of the future has never been brighter!

What to Watch This Weekend: Movies

Haunted Mansion (2023)

Making its eerie entrance into cinemas this week is the fantasy comedy Haunted Mansion, featuring the talented duo of Rosario Dawson and LaKeith Stanfield. Joining them in this star-studded extravaganza are Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Dan Levy, Jared Leto, and Jamie Lee Curtis.

The second reason not to miss this film is that it serves as the second theatrical adaptation of the beloved Disney attraction, The Haunted Mansion.

The first adaptation, starring Eddie Murphy, hit screens in 2003 and garnered a lackluster 14% on the Tomatometer. Thankfully, this time around, it seems like we’re in for a better ride.

Behind the camera, we have the gifted director Justin Simien, best known for his debut film, Dear White People.

Adding to the talent is the skilled writer Kate Dippold, whose impressive resume includes work on shows like Mad TV and Parks and Rec, as well as movies like The Heat and the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot.

In short, get ready for a laughter-filled experience that will leave you entertained from start to finish!

Talk to Me (2023)

Currently haunting theaters is the spine-chilling supernatural horror flick, Talk to Me.

This hair-raising film marks the directorial debut of twin Australian filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou, who have already amassed a massive following on YouTube with their intense action-comedy videos.

That alone is reason enough to give this one a chance, as their creative prowess promises an unforgettable experience.

But if you need another reason to be lured into this eerie tale, consider this: Talk to Me has achieved an impressive Certified Fresh rating of 95% on the Tomatometer, based on a staggering 120 reviews and counting.

The Critics Consensus raves about its gripping storyline and impressive practical effects, praising its ability to weave a spine-tingling 21st-century horror story grounded in classic foundations.

With such high acclaim, there’s no doubt that this movie delivers on its promise to terrify and captivate audiences.

As for the third reason to dive into this unsettling world, look no further than the intriguing premise itself: A group of friends stumbles upon the knowledge of how to summon spirits using an embalmed hand.

However, their curiosity leads them down a dark and dangerous path, as they inadvertently unleash terrifying supernatural forces that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

In conclusion, Talk to Me is a must-see for horror enthusiasts and anyone seeking an adrenaline-pumping cinematic experience. Prepare yourself for a chilling ride that will leave you breathless and spooked long after the credits roll.
