Thailand’s National Football Team Win’s the 2020 AFF Suzuki Cup
Thailand’s national football team has won the AFF Suzuki Cup for a record sixth time on Saturday night, drawing 2-2 with scrappy Indonesia in the second leg of the final for an aggregate win of 6-2.
Adisak Kraisorn and Sarach Yooyen netted two goals in three minutes in the second half for Thailand’s football team after trailing 1-0 at the half. Egy Maulana replied for Indonesia ten minutes from full-time at the National Stadium in Singapore.
Having won the first leg 4-1 on Wednesday, Thailand entered Saturday’s match with a 4-0 lead. Before the match, Mano Polking said the cushion would enable his side to be “a little freer” and express themselves.
The Indonesian football team quickly responded as Ricky Kambuaya scored after just seven minutes. After that, the game became a back-and-forth battle between the two sides.
Chanathip Songkrasin, the Thai captain and football playmaker who scored two goals in the first leg, said after the match that he was satisfied with the result, but that his team must improve further to achieve success.
It was Indonesia’s second consecutive loss in the competition. Their previous five final appearances have all ended in defeat, including losses to Thailand in 2000, 2002, and 2016.
It was officially announced that this year’s football competition would be named the 2020 AFF Suzuki Cup as it had been postponed for a year because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
