How WWE influences Esports culture?
World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has been an integral part of the entertainment industry since its inception back in the 1950s. The theme revolves around wrestling, but people have more freedom to make it more entraining for the viewers.
The popularity of WWE also helped it to enter the gaming industry. Most people might not know, but WWE games originated much before today’s popular esports fighting games like Tekken. In a sense, WWE games helped inspire other games in a similar genre.
However, despite not having as big of an esports scene, WWE video games are still quite popular among fans. Players who want to experience the world of WWE could do so through these video games.
Prior to high-speed internet was available to everyone, these games were a prime choice of entertainment with friends and could be played in co-op locally. This can still be done today, but with time, like in any other fighting game, the WWE games also added online matchmaking to play with or against other players across the globe.
Early WWE games
The origin for WWE games is traced back in late 1980s with games like WWF Superstars and WrestleMania release in 1989. At the time, the technology wasn’t quite there and games were 2D with simple controls or even turn based combat. There was also not much room for customization or anything else, and games for different events came out separately. Most of these games came out on consoles devices from Nintendo and Atari, as PC was also very expensive.
Shift to modern times
With time, these games started adding more things like props, updating graphics from 2D to 3D. Today we have powerful devices and game engines to make and run high quality games. If one takes a look at the evolution of video games from broken pixels on screen to lifelike real-time images, today will surely be impressed. Players have options to pull different move set with fleshed out animations and compete with others on a global leaderboard.
More freedom and customization
The quality of WWE games also improved alongside the graphics. Unlike older games, players have much more freedom to play different modes in a single game. The games even have customization for the looks and a custom character creator to create your own fighter. By giving players more options, these games have already created some great moments for players and will only get better with time, adding more and more innovations which fans can’t wait to experience.
