Knicks Beat The Heat In Game 5 To Avoid Elimination

(CTN News) – As the New York Knicks defeated the Miami Heat 112-103 in Game 5 at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night, they avoided elimination.

In the fourth quarter, the Heat outscored the Knicks 29-28, but the Knicks came back from their 10-point first-quarter deficit by finding their offense in the second and third periods.

There was a 19-point lead for them in this contest, and this was largely due to Jalen Brunson, who failed to score a point for head coach Tom Thibodeau in this must-win game.

It was Brunson, who dropped 38 points on 12-of-22 shooting, including 4-of-10 from three-point range, as well as 10-of-12 free throws. In addition to nine rebounds, he had seven assists as well.

Despite the fact that Brunson ran a marathon in 48 minutes, he wasn’t the only one who participated in the race. This was the first time that Quentin Grimes was on the court for the entire game, playing well on both ends of the floor with two steals and two blocks, as well as eight points, five rebounds, and four assists over the course of the game.

In addition to Julius Randle and RJ Barrett, the New York Knicks also saw more offensive firepower from these players.

After being cold, Randle found his stroke later in the game as he made seven-of-13 shots including four three-pointers and had five rebounds and five assists to finish with 24 points, five rebounds, and five assists.

The Knicks were led by 26 points from Barrett, who also grabbed seven rebounds and had two assists in the game.

Late in the fourth quarter, the Heat employed the “Hack-A-Robinson” gameplan by intentionally putting Knicks big man Mitchell Robinson, a 48.4% free throw shooter in the regular season, at the free throw line on purpose in order to allow Miami to regain control of the game.

When the Heat began intentionally fouling to help keep distance, he missed four of his six chances, including one of two opportunities

There was no player on the Miami Heat who scored 20-or-more points, with Jimmy Butler leading the team with 19 points, nine of those coming from free throws, which was the highest total of any player.

In spite of that, Duncan Robinson played a significant role in the Heat closing the gap created by the Knicks, going 5-for-10 from beyond the arc and scoring 15 of his 17 points off the bench. However, Kyle Lowry, a player who has been great for Miami off the bench, had a tough time with his nine points in this one as he only put three of his 11 shots in the net.

In total, 11 three-pointers were made by both teams, with the Knicks shooting 49.3% from the field as opposed to the Heat’s 42%, but overall the Knicks were better with a 49.3% field goal rate.
