Jimbo Fisher Will Be Fired By Texas A&M After Spending More Than $75 Million

(CTN News) – Texas A&M University is expected to fire head football coach Jimbo Fisher on Sunday, according to two sources familiar with the situation.

To buy out Jimbo Fisher’s contract, the university will have to pay him more than $75 million, a record amount of money owed to a coach by a university.

In an interview with a source familiar with the negotiations, it was revealed that no public funds would be used to pay out the huge contract. The athletics funds at A&M are kept separate from the institutional funds.

A significant amount of money is often used by major college football programs when they buy out their head football coaches.

There was no immediate response from the university’s athletic department to a request for comment from the Texas A&M University System, which directed questions to the university’s athletic department. The decision is expected to be announced at a press conference later on Sunday afternoon.

A&M System Board of Regents, which hires and fires football coaches for the A&M System, discussed the firing of the football coach during the executive session portion of the board meeting last week, sources confirm to me. In the first instance, this decision was reported by TexAgs, an A&M fan site.

College football fans were stunned when university administrations announced in 2017 that Jimbo Fisher would be leaving Florida State University after 10 years and $75 million in a 10-year, $75 million contract. A staggering deal was offered both in terms of the duration and the guaranteed annual salary.

After reports emerged in 2021 that Jimbo Fisher might leave A&M for Louisiana State University, the board decided to extend Fisher’s contract by four years.

Jimbo Fisher made $9 million a year as a result of that extension.

It is interesting to note, however, that Steve Sarkisian, the head football coach at the University of Texas at Austin, is guaranteed to earn at least $34.2 million over the course of his six-year contract.

The university’s leaders at the time said that Jimbo Fisher , who won a national championship in Florida, was worth the money, and that they wanted to win championships if it was possible to do so. However, Fisher has not been able to deliver on his promises.

Even though Fisher had a strong year in 2020, his overall record stands at 45-25. As a result, the Aggies finished the season with a 5-7 record last season. As of this writing, the team is in the middle of another lackluster season, with a 6-4 record as of this writing.

Saturday, Texas A&M trounced Mississippi State 51-10 in a game that had plenty of drama.
