First-Round NFL Draft 2023 Predictions, Including 5 QBs
(CTN News) – It is finally time for the 2023 NFL Draft to begin, and that means it is time to make some last-minute predictions as the event approaches.
In my opinion, it is mostly foolish to try to predict what will happen during the NFL Draft weekend.
One general manager has already admitted that in terms of how each team values each prospect in terms of how they decide whether to sign them, “it’s all a guess.”. However, what would be the point of the NFL draft without prognostications?
As we approach the start of Round 1 of the tournament on Thursday at 8 p.m. Eastern Time, here are five bold predictions for the first day of the tournament:
It is only the fifth time in NFL Draft history that five quarterbacks are selected
Most people would not be surprised if this scenario unfolds, but there is a reason it has only happened four times since 1936: we tend to overhype at least one of the top quarterback prospects, boosting their stock when teams are content to wait for them.
The following four signal-callers are considered virtual locks for Day 1: Bryce Young (Alabama), C.J. Matthews (Ohio State), Anthony Richardson (Florida) and Will Levis (Kentucky).
It is possible that all four would make the top five. Hendon Hooker, of Tennessee, appears to be a good pick to go anywhere between picks 15 and 31, perhaps to a team that has an established starter already in place.
Among the top ten trades, at least three occur
There has been quite a bit of buzz about teams’ differing NFL Draft preferences at high-profile positions like quarterback, edge rusher, and cornerback.
It is likely that there will be a great deal of movement up top, as clubs are more aggressive — or willing to sell — for their players. In the top 10, all but one team has strong reasons to move up or down:
-
Texans (No. 2): They also own No. 12 and are likely to sell their top pick if they are not satisfied with the quarterback they select
-
– Cardinals (No. 3): They have advertised the pick and are likely looking for a team that has a need for a quarterback.
-
Colts (No. 4): It may not be possible for NFL Draft them to stand pat and obtain the quarterback they desire
-
Seahawks (No. 5): They own No. 20 as well and have a history of moving down the rankings
-
Lions (No. 6): With the No. 18 pick in their hands, they can afford to listen
-
(No. 7) Raiders: They could move up for a top quarterback or look to accumulate assets during their rebuilding process
-
(No. 8) Falcons: There is rumor that they are already in a hurry to move down and collect picks
-
It is possible that the Bears (No. 9) will drop even further from No. 1
-
Eagles (No. 10): Howie Roseman is more willing to make trades than just about anyone in the league
