The BAFTA Film Awards Crown Oppenheimer As The Winner

(CTN News) – The BAFTA Film Awards took place on Sunday, and it was ‘Oppenheimer’, a three-hour epic based on the making of the atomic bomb during World War Two, that took home seven awards in total, making it the big winner.

As one of the highest-grossing films of the year, it was awarded the top prize of the night – Best Film of the Year. Also, there were awards for the leading actor Cillian Murphy, the supporting actor Robert Downey Jr, the editing, cinematography, original score, and the director, Christopher Nolan, who received his first such BAFTA award.

As Nolan said in his acceptance speech, “I am so grateful to so many people for this achievement, an incredible cast… and a fantastic crew”, he said.

As the lead actress, BAFTA Emma Stone took home the award for the sex-charged Gothic comedy ‘Poor Things,’ which won five prizes in total.

It is with great pleasure that we announce the winner of the supporting actress award for ‘The Holdovers’, a comedy based around boarding school life.

This year’s winner for the first prize in the original screenplay category was the courtroom comedy ‘Anatomy of a Fall’.

A film about the commandant of Auschwitz and his family living next to the Nazi death camp, ‘The Zone of Interest’, won prizes for the best British film, despite it not being in the English language and without sound.

’20 Days in Mariupol’, based on journalist Mstyslav Chernov’s personal BAFTA account of the Ukrainian city siege in 2022, won the award for best documentary.

Chernov said in a speech he gave at a ceremony held to celebrate his acceptance this evening that this is not about him, but about Ukraine, about the people of Mariupol. He explained that another Ukrainian city had fallen the day before yesterday.

It can be argued that BAFTA Mariupol’s story is a symbol of everything that took place, that it is a symbol of struggle.”

It was attended by a number of celebrities, as well as BAFTA president Prince William, who was on the guest list at the ceremony, which was held at the Royal Festival Hall in central London.
