Robert Whittaker Defeats Costa After Surviving An Early Scare At UFC 298
(CTN News) – During UFC 288, former middleweight champ Robert Whittaker and Paulo Costa collided in a hard-hitting fight.
Before Alexander Volkanovski and Ilia Topuria entered the Octagon on Saturday night, Whittaker and Costa fought inside the Honda Center in Anaheim, California before they entered the Octagon.
Robert Whittaker had not fought since his second-round TKO loss to UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis last year.
This marked the fighter’s first return to action since then. In the year 2023, Costa missed most of the season, as he had not competed since August 2022, when he was injured.
After all the dust has settled, and the winner has been announced, Robert Whittaker emerged victorious in the end.
Robert Whittaker landed a few leg kicks early in the fight. During one of Costa’s head kicks, he went high and high. Whittaker landed a good jab with a stiff punch.
An area of welt was beginning to develop on the left leg of “Borrachinha”. A counterpunch was delivered by Whittaker, followed by a jab from him. “The Reaper” landed a right hand on the target.
A spinning heel kick that Costa landed late in the opening frame wobbled Whittaker and caused him to lose his balance. As a result of the horn, it is possible that “The Reaper” was saved.
The pace started to pick up for Robert Whittaker as Costa began to slow down a bit as he started to pick up his pace. In spite of the fact that “Borrachinha” was still a threat throughout the fight, Whittaker was able to take a unanimous decision victory.
As a result of his win, Robert Whittaker improves his pro MMA record to 25-7. According to the official rankings for the UFC 185-pound weight class, the former middleweight ruler will be able to hold on to his number three position.
“Borrachinha” figures to be in for an interesting fight in his next outing, as he put up a solid effort against “The Reaper.” But while it’s another bump in the road in his quest for UFC gold, “Borrachinha” is going to be facing a good opponent in his next outing.
