(CTN News) – Klay Thompson finished with eight points on 4-of-9 shooting, including 0-of-3 from beyond the arc.
During the seventh minute of the game, Thompson was subbed out for rest. It was decided not to reintroduce him into the game.
Stephen Curry scored 29 points and hit a clutch 3-pointer, while Jonathan Kuminga posted 28 points and 10 rebounds in the Warriors’ 109-98 victory in Brooklyn. The coach stuck with rookie Gui Santos and four starters in crunch time, and Santos finished the game with a team-best +13 in his 18 minutes of action.

A combination of Thompson’s age (he is 33 years old) and major injuries have adversely affected his game in recent years.
He has gone from being the second-best shooter in the league and an All-NBA two-way force to being a solid starter-level player, and he has expressed frustration with this development on multiple occasions this season. On Monday night, he repeated the action.
Additionally, this is at the heart of the contract extension negotiations between the Warriors and Klay Thompson- he will be a free agent following this season. In spite of the wishful thinking of fans who enjoy NBA chaos, there is no chance that the Warriors will trade Klay Thompson at the deadline, but it is up in the air what price Thompson should receive to return to a team paying a historic luxury tax bill.
During the summer of last year, Draymond Green, another member of the Warriors core, signed a four-year, $100 million contract extension with the team.
As a consequence of his frustrations on the court, Klay Thompson is experiencing frustrations with his contract. As of this writing, he is averaging 17.1 points per game, shooting 37.1% from 3-point range, and having a true shooting percentage of 55.6, slightly below the league average.
It appears that Thompson views himself as a player who is closer to league average than he actually is based on his advanced stats.
Klay Thompson has experienced a great deal of frustration as a result of that adjustment. Nevertheless, in order for Kerr to succeed in stringing together victories and get his team back into the playoff picture, he must rely on what has worked in the past. That was Santos in Brooklyn on Monday night.
