Celtics Win 9th Straight After Pulling Away From 76ers In Fourth Quarter

(CTN News) – A record ninth straight win for the Boston Celtics was achieved on Tuesday night with a 117-99 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, led by 31 points from Jaylen Brown.

The NBA-leading Celtics won their 25th consecutive game at home against an Eastern Conference opponent as Jayson Tatum scored 29 points, including 15 in the fourth quarter.

The Boston Celtics defeated the New York Knicks despite shooting only 5-of-22 3-pointers and committing 14 turnovers. As a result, the Celtics outscored Philadelphia 64-48 in the second half and dominated with a 56-28 advantage in rebounding.

The 76ers were led by Tyrese Maxey, who scored 32 points and dished out five assists. Four of Philadelphia’s last five games have ended in losses, and the team is just 4-8 since Joel Embiid was sidelined due to a knee injury.

76ers cut what had been a 14-point deficit to 11 entering the fourth quarter and then made another surge with 8:49 remaining to trim Boston’s lead to 91-89.

During the final four minutes of the game, the Celtics scored 17 consecutive points, including eight from Tatum, to take a 107-89 lead.

Brown led Boston with 18 points in the first 24 minutes as the team took a 53-51 advantage into halftime.

In their ninth consecutive win, JT and JB combine for 60 points to lead the @celtics to first place in the Eastern Conference.

Three blocks were recorded by Derrick White in the first quarter, as part of a defensive effort that limited the Sixers to 39% shooting for the half.

Over the past week, the 76ers have slowly begun to get players back from injury after losing five out of seven games prior to the All-Star break.

A number of players, including Nicolas Batum (hamstring), De’Anthony Melton (back) and Kyle Lowry (conditioning), were in action, but had been limited to a certain number of minutes each.

Despite this, Melton was forced to leave the game early in the second half due to back spasms. During his nine minutes of play, he was 0 for 2 from the field and recorded two rebounds and an assist.

In Lowry’s case, it was only his third appearance since he was bought out by Charlotte and signed by the 76ers on February 13.

As a result of the extra bodies, Philadelphia was able to jump out to a quick 11-4 lead early in the game. It was quickly erased by Boston, which responded with an 11-0 run.
