'Demon Slayer' Season 3 Episode 1 Recap: Journey To The Village Of Swordsmiths

(CTN News) – We’re back for more fun demon-slaying from the Taisho period after season two’s spectacular battle. Demon Slayer’s third season begins with an hour-long premiere featuring the death of an Upper Rank for the first time in 100 years.

When Daki and Gyutaro, both Upper Rank Six demons, die, Muzan summons the demons of the Upper Ranks to a meeting in protest of the deaths of these two great demons.

A stunning, visually arresting extended look at the maze-like netherworld from production studio Ufotable, who instantly re-establish Demon Slayer’s position as one of anime’s most visually striking series with this eye-popping, physics-defying episode.

We are introduced in the masterpiece sequence to the Twelve Kizuki, starting with Akaza (number 3), Gyokko (number 5), Hantengu (number 4), Doma (number 2), and Kokushibo (number 1), along with Biwa Woman Nakime, mistress of Muzan’s palace.

Whether it be Gyokko’s infantile hands emerging from a misshapen head, or Hantengu’s crouching skeletal body that only seems to be made from despair, the Upper Ranks are beautifully grotesque in every way.

We learn more about the Kizuki’s internal politics in addition to their jaw-dropping looks and overwhelming power: the resentment and resentment of Akaza towards his superiors, for example.

Muzan appears to be very upset over recent failures. He demands that the team give up on their plans for destroying the Ubuyashiki family and going after the Blue Spider Lily.

We are brought into a dream where an unnamed Demon Slayer with hanafuda earrings is brought tea by someone who looks like an older version of Tanjiro, down to the black-checkered kimono our protagonist wears (hmmm, perhaps an ancestor?).

Gratitude is expressed by the man to the Demon Slayer for saving his family, and he offers to preserve his name since the Demon Slayer has no heir to carry on the family name.

It is with tears in his eyes that Tanjiro awakens – apparently after a two-month coma due to the grievous injuries he has suffered.

In the week following Tanjiro’s recovery, he is still in rehab when he receives a stack of angry letters from Haganezuka who refuses to craft a replacement for Tanjiro’s broken sword, citing Tanjiro’s carelessness.

In spite of being dismayed, Tanjiro is informed that he may journey to Swordsmith Village, where the swordsmiths of the Demon Slayer Corps are located.

A blindfolded, ear-plugged, and nose-plugged Tanjiro arrives at the idyllic settlement after a circuitous journey guiding him by different types of Kakushi and Kasugai crows.

As Haganezuka remains MIA, Tanjiro is invited to remain in the village.

In his encounter with Love Hashira Mitsuri, he enjoys a hearty dinner with her. Having defeated an Upper Rank, she praises Tanjiro for the experience he gained during the fight – equivalent to a decade of demon slaying daily.

As Mitsuri prepares to leave, she informs Tanjiro of a special weapon hidden in the village that may be able to boost his abilities.
