'Star Wars' Movies: James Mangold And Dave Filoni To Direct

(CTN News) – Lucasfilm announced that Dave Filoni and James Mangold would direct two upcoming “Star Wars” films.

A total of two films will be directed by the directors. Additionally, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will direct a third film featuring Daisy Ridley’s Rey.

During Lucasfilm’s showcase during London’s Star Wars Celebration, President Kathleen Kennedy shocked fans by announcing a trio of films.

It is anticipated that Mangold’s movie will take place during the dawn of the Jedi, while Filoni’s project will take place during the New Republic, and will complete the interconnected stories depicted in multiple Disney+ series, including “The Mandalorian,” “The Book of Boba Fett,” and “Ahsoka.”

During the panel, Mangold said, “It’s a chance to tell the entire story of its own, the creation of the force.”.

In talking with Kathy Kennedy about the project, I simply said, “I see this as the beginning of a movie like Ben-Hur or The Ten Commandments regarding the birth of the force.”.

However, where did the force originate? What is the procedure for finding it? What is the source of this discovery? Can you tell me what the name of the first Jedi was? At the moment, I am writing about that subject.”

As a showrunner for Disney+’s “The Mandalorian” and “Ahsoka,” Mangold has recently directed “Logan” and this summer’s “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.”

Mangold is also working on a DC Comics adaptation called “Swamp Thing” for Warner Bros. The filmmaker told Collider that he isn’t sure which one of the projects will move forward first.

The film will take place after the events of “Rise of Skywalker,” and will follow Rey as she builds a new Jedi Order. A script will be written by Steven Knight, the writer of “Peaky Blinders” and “Spencer.”

As the first woman and person of color to direct a “Star Wars” movie, Obaid-Chinoy marks several major milestones for the franchise.

Two Academy Awards have gone to the Pakistani filmmaker for documentary shorts, in 2011 for “Saving Face” and in 2015 for “A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness.” She directed two episodes of “Ms. It’s a Marvel Girl!” said the Pakistani director.

Several announcements and new footage have been released so far at Star Wars Celebration. As well as Ahsoka, which debuts in August, trailers for “The Acolyte,” starring Amandla Stenberg and Lee Jung-jae from “Squid Game” were released. There was also some new footage from Season 2, which will premiere in August 2024.

Also previewed was “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew,” which is said to evoke classic Amblin films and focuses on kids. Several young cast members from the show, including Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, Robert Timothy Smith, were introduced by Jude Law at the Celebration.
