Roger Federer Has Retired From Professional Tennis After Undergoing Knee Surgery
(CTN News) – Roger Federer has decided to retire from professional tennis at the age of 41 after undergoing a series of knee operations. During his career, he won 20 Grand Slam titles, spent five seasons ranked No. 1, and helped create a golden era of men’s tennis with Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
Why Roger Federer retire at the age of 41?
I have experienced injuries and surgeries in the past three years, as many of you know,” Roger Federer wrote on his social media accounts Thursday. Despite working hard to return to competitive form, my body has been telling me lately that it has its limits and capacities.
My competitive career spans 24 years, and I have played more than 1500 matches over that time. Tennis has treated me more generously than I could have imagined, and now I must recognize the time has come for my competitive career to end.” She said.
Among men’s players, Roger Federer ranks third all time with 20 Grand Slam titles behind Nadal (22) and Djokovic (21).
Federer hasn’t played a competitive match since reaching Wimbledon’s quarterfinals in 2021, and he announced in mid-August that he had undergone another knee surgery.
At the All England Club’s 100th anniversary event in July, he said he hoped to return “one more time.” He also said he would compete at the Swiss Indoors in October.
Roger Federer said he will miss everything the tour has provided him. “But at the same time, there is so, there is so much to celebrate. I consider myself one of the luckiest people on Earth.
I have been blessed with a special talent to play tennis, and I have done it for a much longer period of time than I ever imagined.
The Spaniard expressed a similar sentiment, tweeting, “I wish this day had never come,” but also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to “share all these years with you, living so many amazing moments on and off the court.”
At the Laver Cup in London, Roger Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Andy Murray will compete together for the first time. Six of Europe’s top players face six from the rest of the world in the three-day team event, which is run by Federer’s management company.
