The Dodgers' Cody Bellinger Tribute To The Stadium's Return

(CTN News) – Cody Bellinger has spent six seasons at Dodger Stadium home. However, this was the first time in his career he visited Chavez Ravine.

In honor of the occasion, the Los Angeles Dodgers played a video tribute to Bellinger, who watched the video from shallow right field and tipped his hat to cheering fans once the video was over. “That’s really cool,” Bellinger said when he heard the news.

As I was watching it, I got very emotional. Just brought back so many memories for me. In my opinion, it was a good ovation.

The best I could do was just to soak up that moment as much as I could.

In the Chicago Cubs’ 8-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds, Bellinger went one for four with a pair of runs scored, a double and a walk. “That one felt good,” he said of the extra-base hit that he hit. The swing was good and the pitch was pretty good as well. “It felt good to do it.”

Prior to the video tribute as well as helping the Cubs to a win over his former Dodgers team, the 27-year-old spoke fondly of both his current status as well as his memories of being back at Dodger Stadium after a long absence.

“When I was 20 years old, it was my first big league camp with the majority of my group of friends. Bellinger said that they treated him with nothing but respect and showed me nothing but kindness.

Having come up through this organization, it can be intimidating for a young kid coming up through it. However, they made me feel at home and made me feel comfortable during my stay.

There are so many memories I have with that group of guys, man. It can be good, bad, but at the end of the day, as I have said before, if I had been playing Little League baseball at the age of 12, I would have been extremely proud of the achievements that I had made here.”

It was the Dodgers fans who cheered for Bellinger throughout the course of the night, including for his first at-bat. In order to allow for the moment to breathe, Bellinger stepped out of the batter’s box, however, the home-plate umpire, Jim Wolf, called the pitcher for a violation of the pitch timer.

“Yeah, I’m going to have to have a word with Wolf tomorrow,” Bellinger joked as he made his way through the crowd. I was surprised by the ruling, but at the end of the day, rules are rules, I suppose. I simply locked it in as soon as I got in, and I was just competing from there on out.”
