Champions League Offers A Lot Of Potential For Asensio At PSG

(CTN News) – A former Real Madrid player, Marco Asensio believes he has plenty to offer Paris Saint-Germain in their bid for a maiden Champions League title.

Due to a foot injury, the 28-year-old missed more than two months of action after joining PSG on a free transfer from Madrid.

In the last three Ligue 1 matches, he started and scored twice. PSG play Real Sociedad in the Champions League last-16 on Wednesday. For the third straight year, they’re hoping to avoid an early exit.

With Real Madrid, Asensio has won the title in 2017, 2018, and 2022, scoring in the final seven years ago against Juventus. A young PSG side rebuilding after Lionel Messi and Neymar left, he said, “My football, my experience, and my leadership.”.

I’ve been in the football world for a long time, I’ve had my share of success, and I think I can contribute a lot.

As an example, I can inspire the young players of the club.”

Under their Qatari owners, PSG have reached the knockout phase 12 consecutive seasons without lifting the European Cup.

The trophy couldn’t be delivered by Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe.

Among Asensio’s 13 new signings were Goncalo Ramos, Randal Kolo Muani, Ousmane Dembele and Lee Kang-in.

Spain international believes the new-look squad, under new coach Luis Enrique, can compete in Europe’s biggest club competition.

Adding, “We are on the right track, united, and I believe we will accomplish great things together.”.

“We are all very ambitious. We have already won a title (the Champions League’ Trophy), and in a very short period, we will decide the league, the French Cup, and the Champions League.

Whenever we compete, we aim to win.”

As a result of Luis Enrique’s arrival before the start of the season, PSG have steadily improved since their slow start. Ahead of second-placed Nice by 11 points, the reigning French Champions League appear set to defend their league title. Following a loss to AC Milan in November, Paris Saint-Germain are unbeaten in 16 matches in all competitions.

Luis Enrique and Asensio have a good relationship, Asensio said.

I knew his working method, what he expects from the team, and what he requests of each player after working with him for the national team.

In Champions League terms of discipline and professionalism, as well as the standards he sets towards himself and us, he is one of the best coaches I have ever had.

In spite of failing to win Group F, PSG avoided Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester City in the last-16 draw.

Although Real Sociedad have not reached the quarterfinals since 1983, Asensio warned his teammates against complacency. Asensio predicted tough matches. “La Real is a team that I am familiar with. They play very good football, very effectively…

It will be a difficult two-legged tie, but we will try our best to win it.”
