Google Pixel’s Spotify Wrapped Feature Gets An Upgrade
(CTN News) – I don’t know about you, but Now Playing is one of my absolute favorite Google Pixel 6 features and it’s one of the many things I love about it. In a few short weeks it will receive a major upgrade, and I’m so glad to hear that it will be receiving one soon.
A music detector app such as Now Playing is essentially a computerized version of Shazam. Whenever your Google Pixel hears a song, it will cross reference its lyrics and melody with its massive database of tunes; if it finds a match, it will alert you in the notification menu as to what the song is and who the artist is, and it will be logged in your phone’s Now Playing history.
It is also about to receive an upgrade, with a Summary tab being added to the Now Playing menu soon (via 9to5Google(opens in new tab)) to display the tracks that have shaped your life.
In other words, the update represents a monthly Spotify Wrapped for music you have heard on your phone. Using your Now Playing Summary, you will receive details about the music that has been detected by your Google Pixel as shown in leaked screenshots; you will be able to see how many songs you’ve heard, which specific tracks and artists you’ve been exposed to the most, as well as the most frequent times of day that your Google Pixel receives music.
In addition, the summary page will let you explore artists to see what songs you’ve heard – simply tap on the tracks and they should appear in your favourite music streaming service.
Google Pixel: How to turn on Now Playing
To maintain a fresh playlist on Apple Music, I rely heavily on Now Playing. As a result of this feature, I am able to easily identify the song I have just heard – whether it is something I heard on BBC Radio 1, in a bar, or an advert that played before my next YouTube video – and add it to my digital collection.
Moreover, Now Playing History will keep a log that I can browse even days later when it comes time to update my music collection, so I don’t have to remember to do it in the moment.
For those of you who would like to take advantage of the feature (and have a Google smartphone like the Google Pixel 7), it is quite straightforward to enable.
Start by opening the Settings app on your Pixel phone and typing Now Playing into the search bar at the top. When you tap on the Now Playing option, you will see a toggle for turning on or off the ability for your Pixel phone to “identifie songs playing nearby.”
