Sen. Tim Scott Of South Carolina Announces His Candidacy For President In 2024

(CTN News) – South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott has officially launched his presidential campaign. He will join a GOP primary battle dominated by former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Tim Scott announces his campaign at 11:00 Eastern Time. Live streaming is available above.

As the only Black Republican senator in the South Carolina Senate, Scott will announce his campaign in North Charleston after making it official last week.

Among Tim Scott’s alma mater’s is Charleston Southern University, a Southern Baptist university affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. Charleston Southern University is Tim Scott’s alma mater.

Next, he’ll spend Tuesday in Charleston with donors before a whirlwind trip to Iowa and New Hampshire.

A former United Nations ambassador, Nikki Haley, and former Arkansas governor are among the GOP candidates. Scott will need to stand out in a field dominated by Trump and DeSantis, the latter of whom might announce his own bid this week.

Asa Hutchinson and “Woke, Inc.” author Vivek Ramaswamy are among the candidates.

Tim Scott senior adviser noted that political environments can change during a primary campaign. He cited the 2016 election campaign of Wisconsin Gov. In the GOP primaries before Trump became the party’s nominee, Tim Scott Walker and Jeb Bush were the top candidates.

In order to make his mark, Scott plans to use more optimistic rhetoric than his conservative opponents. Tim Scott’s Christian faith is an integral part of his political and personal story.

He often quotes Scripture during campaign speeches, weaving spiritual guidance into his stump speeches and even giving his pre-launch listening tour the name “Faith in America.”

As evidence of Scott’s political strength, his team points to his November Senate reelection victory over his Democratic opponent by more than 20 percentage points.

According to Scott’s advisers, such overwhelming support in a state that votes early in the GOP’s presidential nomination calendar bodes well for Scott’s electability in general.

Additionally, there is the issue of money. With more cash in hand than any presidential candidate in U.S. history, he will enter the 2024 race in a competitive position.

The $22 million he had left in his campaign bank account at the end of his campaign for president in 2022 will be transferred immediately to his campaign coffers.

This is enough money to keep Tim Scott running TV ads in early voting states until next year. This is according to his team.

Scott aligns himself with the mainstream GOP on a number of issues. As president, he would sign a federal law prohibiting abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, which would reduce government spending.

Scott, however, has pushed his party to overhaul policing since George Floyd was killed, and he occasionally criticizes Trump’s response to racial tensions.

Tim Scott has maintained a cordial relationship with Trump despite their disagreements. He writes in his book that he was “listened to intently” about racial issues.
