Timberwolves Beat The Spurs 102-94, Thanks To Gobert’s Impressive 16 Points And 21 Rebounds.
(CTN News) -Rudy Gobert recorded 16 points and 21 rebounds, contributing significantly to the Minnesota Timberwolves’ victory over the San Antonio Spurs with a score of 102-94 on Wednesday night.
This win marks the Timberwolves’ fifth consecutive triumph, while the Spurs suffered their 15th consecutive loss. Alongside Gobert’s impressive performance, Mike Conley scored 18 points, Anthony Edwards contributed 17 points, and Naz Reid added 15 points.
Karl-Anthony Towns also played a crucial role with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Despite Edwards’ return after missing two games due to a right hip pointer, he struggled with his shooting, making only 4 of 17 field goal attempts. Edwards praised Gobert’s exceptional contributions, acknowledging him as the driving force behind their current success.
The team hopes for Gobert’s continued health and dominance in future games.
In the rookie’s debut game in Timberwolves Minnesota, Gobert frequently faced off against his good friend and fellow Frenchman, Victor Wembanyama. Wembanyama struggled to score against the towering presence of Gobert, Towns, and Reid, only managing to put up 12 points on 4-of-13 shooting. However, he did contribute with 10 rebounds.
Leading the way for San Antonio was Devin Vassell, who tallied 22 points. Keldon Johnson also had a strong performance, recording 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Zach Collins chipped in with 12 points.
Wembanyama expressed optimism about the team’s defense, stating, “It’s promising.” However, he acknowledged that their shots were not falling that night and Timberwolves emphasized the need to learn from the experience and improve.
Meanwhile, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich made some changes to the starting lineup, bringing Vassell back into the fold after a six-game absence due to a left adductor strain.
Additionally, Cedi Osman made his first start, although Popovich did not provide further details on the reasoning behind the lineup adjustments.
In the 4th quarter, the Timberwolves trailed early but Edwards and Reid’s 3-pointers sparked a 16-2 run. Coach Finch was disappointed with the team’s defense in the first half, but Rudy’s return made a noticeable difference.
McDaniels is still sidelined with a sprained ankle but can participate in individual training. Gobert is happy to see the crowd embrace the team and acknowledge their resilience during training camp.
