Pakistan Beat Bangladesh To Keep Their World Cup Dream Alive With Fakhar

(CTN News) – At the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets on Tuesday to keep their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup alive, after suffering four consecutive losses.

With Fakhar Zaman making his comeback after five matches, the left-handed batsman did more than he could have ever imagined as he scored 81 runs off 74 deliveries with three fours and seven sixes – one of which was a maximum of 99 metres.

As well as Abdullah Shafique scoring 68 runs, he also teamed up with Zaman to build a 128-run opening partnership that put the Green Shirts in a dominant position at the start of the game.

The Pakistani captain, Babar Azam, however, failed to stand till the end and finish the game for Pakistan after he was caught by Mahmudullah at long on while trying to hit a six in what was a convincing victory for Pakistan.

Thrivers Mohammad Rizwan (26) and Iftikhar Ahmed (17) completed the scoring for the Green Shirts, who kept their hopes open of reaching the semifinals of the World Cup, which are a few years away.

The Bangladeshi batsmen were met with Shaheen Afridi’s first-over magic as the left-handed pacer removed Tanzid Hasan for a duck in the first over of the innings.

Afridi and Haris Rauf both removed Najmul Hossain Shanto (4) and Mushfiqur Rahim (5) in the next five overs, leaving Bangladesh 23-3 in 6 overs.

Littos Das and Mahmudullah formed a 79-run partnership to help their team post crucial runs against Pakistan’s deadly pace attack.

Das, however, lost his wicket to Iftikhar Ahmed as he was getting closer to his fifty-run mark. Soon enough, Mahmudullah was dismissed for 56 runs by Afridi.

Shakib Al Hasan scored 43 runs while Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored 25 runs, but their efforts could not lead the Bangladeshi team to a comprehensive total as the whole team was bowled out for 204 runs.

As a result, Shaheen and Wasim Jr, both of whom had three wickets each, were the most successful bowlers in the Babar-led unit.

A must-win match will take place between Pakistan and New Zealand on November 4 in Bengaluru. As a result, the Green Shirts would need to win the match at all costs if they wish to maintain their hopes of playing the semi-final of the event.
