Google Pixel Fold Teases Ahead Of May 10 Launch [+Rumoured Specs, Price]

Google Pixel Fold

(CTN NEWS) – With an official teaser of its upcoming Pixel phone, Google laid the rumours to rest this week. A brief YouTube video introducing the Google Pixel Fold has received close to 130,000 views so far.

The preview displays both the fully unfolded device and the folio-style handset from various perspectives. On Google’s landing page, interested parties can sign up to get updates on new products, including the Pixel Fold.

At least in the US, foldable has had a hesitant start.

They were expected to be the next big thing in smartphone technology, but early challenges like dubious durability, practicality issues, and expensive prices have mostly deterred all but the most early adopters.

The majority of foldable fall into one of two groups. Folio-style foldable, such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and the Pixel Fold, unfold horizontally like a book and change the device into something that resembles a small tablet more.

Flip phones, on the other hand, use a clamshell design that is more portable, like the Motorola Razr.

They take up less room in your pocket when closed and are typically around half the size of a contemporary smartphone. Personal preference ultimately determines which is favoured.

The rollable is a third category of flexible display smartphones. Late last year, Lenovo unveiled a concept based on this form factor, and the company is currently developing a laptop with a similar fundamental layout.

Both use a mechanical device to essentially increase the height of the display in order to provide extra screen space.

Which versatile form factor do you prefer more?

Clam shells provide some satisfaction and come with a touch of nostalgia, but if I had to choose, I would probably select a folio because of the screen size it offers when opened.

Google plans to provide additional information about the Pixel Fold on May 10 during its I/O 2023 keynote.

The unfortunate news is that Prosser claims the 256GB Pixel Fold will cost $1,799. This would be unfortunate and put it on par with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4.

Later, he added that it appears that a $1,919 512GB Pixel Fold model is on the way.

Yogesh Brar, a leaker with a decent track record, spoke to us previously.

He stated that the Pixel Fold will cost between $1,300 and $1,500, which might represent a significant $500 premium above what we anticipate the Galaxy Z Fold 5 to cost.

9to5Similar to Brar’s leak, Google (opens in new tab) said that the Pixel Fold might cost less than the Galaxy Z Fold line (opens in new tab), specifically $1,400. Two reports now indicate a Pixel Fold that competes with Samsung.

At $1,799, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is now the most costly foldable available in the United States. And when it ships later this year, we anticipate the Galaxy Z Fold 5 to cost the same.
