Young Thai star Pittayarat Panuphol continued making waves in the Worldwide Selangor Masters Holdings, when they took a two shot lead after the third round at Kota Permai Golf and Country Club yesterday.
The magnificent putt to join an impressive five-under 67 for lead from 2007 champion Antonio Lascuna of the Philippines with a three-day total of 203.
Lascuna jumped into the race for the title with a flawless six under 66 for a total 205.
Australian Adam Groom, who also shot a 66 and Joonas from Finland with 70 Granberg two strokes behind and are tied for third in the Asia RM1.2mil tour event.
S. Malaysia Siva Nicholas Fung Chandhran and also the progress made in the third round as it climbed to fifth place with solid qualifications. Siva shot a 67 to add to his previous score of 72 and 69, while Fung was one of three players to set the lowest score of the day with a 66.
They are grouped with Thailand Thaworn Wiratchant veteran Australian Siddikur Kieran Pratt and Bangladesh Rahman, but they are five strokes behind the leader.
However, with only one round of fighting, the attention was Panuphol as the leader of the night he showed maturity beyond his young age to extend their lead.
With his father in the service Chinnawat caddy, sizzling on the greens, piercing his seventh birdie of the day on the last hole from 25 feet to the head in 13-under 203.
“I was getting big. My putter was on fire the past two days. Putt on 18, did not see coming. It was a putt of no thought. You could see you just pressed and putt. Luckily it rolled in the hole, “said Panuphol.
The young Thai, who turned pro as a 14 year old boy who did not like school, attributes the influence of his father for his impressive display so far.
“He is good with lines and helps me to think much about. It is a great help. He is one of the best and I want to give this (win),” he said.
Lascuna, who is 22 years older than Panuphol enjoyed a chip in birdie from 20 yards on the fourth hole and nailed a monster 75 foot putt for birdie on the 13th hole, as he took the opportunity to one Asian Tour victory in the shower.
Defending champion Angelo Philippines, launched a one-over 73 for a three-day total of 212. He is nine shots in the head.
