Woman Scams 10 Year-old Girl Over Fake Scholarship
A police spokesperson said a woman identified as Ms. Trinate Sa-wee was arrested for operating line app scams duping victims into sending her money. Her victims included a 10-year-old girl, who was offered a 6,000-baht scholarship via Line chat by the suspect.
The 10-year-old girl was tricked into transferring 900 baht to “claim” the scholarship but never received any money.
According to cyber police, the woman sent thousands of similar messages via Line App. Approximately 500 people lost around 400,000 baht as a result of her Line App scam.
Cyber police are working to locate the woman’s alleged accomplice, identified as Thanatorn Muangsaimoon.
Police arrest seven fraudsters
Police have arrested seven online fraudsters in a crackdown on fake loan scams which followed the death of a man who committed suicide after losing 130,000 baht them. Six Thai nationals and one Chinese National were arrested.
A spokesperson for Thailand’s Cyber police said the online fraudsters were arrested in Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Suphan Buri, Sa Kaeo, Phangnga, and Bangkok provinces.
The seven suspects were arrested over their links to a website that advertised quick personal loans, which turned out to be nothing but a scam.
The website came under the radar after a 44-year-old man in central Thailand killed himself for losing 130,000 baht to the fraudsters after applying for a loan.
They were identified the suspects were identified as Jatuporn Ruekmongkol, Hayeera Faprathan, Kannika Sriyod, Nichakorn Pansuwan, Chawalit Phanjampee, and Mr. Chia Guajun from China.
As of Thursday, one more fraudster, Mr. Jirayut Namwiya, remained at large, according to Cyber police.
