Emails In Gmail Are Mixed With Ads, Which Annoys People

(CTN News) – Google is testing the placement of advertisements in Gmail, according to reports, raising concerns among users.

Users of Gmail on desktop and mobile devices are receiving more advertisements than usual, according to screenshots that have been posted on the internet.

Even though advertisements are nothing new to Gmail, they are usually tucked away at the top of the Promotions and Social tabs, where they can be easily overlooked.

As a result of the new placement, advertisements are inserted between email messages, making it difficult to differentiate between them at a glance, even if they are marked with the Ad icon.

According to screenshots on Twitter, the ads do not appear to be targeted.

It appears that everything is random. On smartphones, the intrusiveness is even more pronounced since some have received images alongside the advertisements, thereby taking up even more space.

This Zerg Rush of advertisements is not affecting every single user. As for Gmail for desktop, we have not noticed any changes. As usual, everything went according to plan. On the mobile version, however, we noticed more ads than usual in the Promotions section, but there were no additional images.

As a matter of fact, it is possible that none of this has been done on purpose by Google.

An official Gmail Twitter account responded to an upset user by saying that the sudden influx of ads “doesn’t sound good” and inviting them to send feedback through the Gmail Help tool.

Furthermore, there have been instances in which bad actors have hijacked the Google Ads network to push adult content to “unsuspecting victims”. A hacker was so bold as to send malware to a person in one instance.

As a conclusion, while Google’s new placement of ads in Gmail may seem concerning to some users, it is important to keep in mind that it may not be a conscious decision on the part of Google.

Furthermore, it is also worth mentioning that not all users are experiencing this influx of ads at the same time. Although, given Google’s reliance on digital advertising for revenue, it is understandable that the company would be exploring new ways for businesses to advertise given its reliance on digital advertising.

Regardless of whether the user finds the ads intrusive or unwanted, he or she can take steps to block them at any time.
