India's daily Covid Cases hit a 163-day High With Over 4,000 New Infections

(CTN News) – Union Health Ministry data from 5 April 2023 shows that India has recorded 4,435 new cases of Covid, bringing the total number of active cases to 21,091.

COVID tally in India climbs to 4.47 crore with 15 deaths

Despite the return to near-normalcy across society and the economy, a leading epidemiologist warned that coronavirus infections in India are tripling every 4-5 days, suggesting that the pandemic is still far from being under control.

Sixty percent of SARS-CoV-2 cases in India are attributable to Omicron subvariant XBB.1.16, according to the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium.

Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has reassured the public that the sub-variant of Omicron circulating nationwide is not responsible for the recent uptick in hospitalizations.

 

The Union Health Ministry has issued a warning about the spread of Covid-19. The current weather can aid in spreading the Covid-19 virus, so the warning warned against ignoring any symptoms.

Delhi sees the highest single-day rise in cases since August 2022

In the last 24 hours, the number of reported Covid instances in Maharashtra has increased by 186%. The state documented 711 new virus cases and 4 deaths during this period. Due to the increase in cases, masks have been made mandatory in several areas of Maharashtra.

The nation’s capital also saw an increase in cases on Monday, reporting 521 new cases, the biggest daily increase since August 27th, 2022.

The city’s positivity rate was 15.64%, showing a steep rise in the proportion of the population that tested positive for the virus.

Despite the increase in cases, the city’s health department claimed that the reported death was not due to coronavirus but rather to an unrelated cause.
