Piriyapinyo Halts Laguna In Thailand
Featherweight Chonlatarn Or Piriyapinyo defeated Roel Laguna from the Philippines by KO in round six to again defend his WBO Asia Pacific featherweight title on Friday night at Bangla Boxing Stadium near Patong Beach on Phuket Island, the most famous sightseeing destination in Thailand.
Laguna violently came forward with power punches, but the well trained Piriyapinyo returned fire with nice combinations to score points. In rounds three and four, Laguna landed his right uppercut to Piriyapinyo’s chin several times. This made Piriyapinyo angry and he unleashed a barrage of punches to drop Laguna at the end of round three. At the start of round 6, Piriyapinyo started to deliver more and more power punches, connecting to the face of Laguna. The last one-two combination to the head knocked Laguna down again and he was counted out.
After the fight, the unbeaten former Muaythai fighter Piriyapinyo said he’s ready for a world title shot. “I want to challenge Jhonny Gonzalez to get my first world championship belt,” Piriyapinyo said. “If I get chance to fight with Gonzalez, I will be the new world champion. I believe it 100%!”
Female promoter Pariyakorn Ratanasban of Onesongchai Boxing Promotion added, “We are ready to challenge for a world title, either the WBC or WBO. Onesongchai is one of the most famous boxing and muaythai promoters in Thailand and until now we’ve made nine world champions in boxing, such as Sot Chitalada, Samart Payakaroon, Muangchai Kittikasem and two female world champion such as current WBO Female mini-fly weight champion Teeraporn Pannimit.”
“We want to make the tenth male world champion,” Pariyakorn told us. “Chonlatarn has had the #1 ranking for a long time but so far he could not get a chance yet. However now we are ready to challenge for a world title anywhere, not only Thailand, but even in Mexico.
“The Muaythai of Thailand is very famous worldwide. I am hoping that Chonlatarn will make the boxing of Thailand also famous in the world
