Microsoft, a major investor in OpenAI and a provider of processing power for its AI systems, stated on Friday that the change will not impact their partnership.

“We have a long-term partnership with OpenAI and Microsoft remains committed to Mira and their team as we bring this next era of AI to our customers,” stated a statement sent by Microsoft.

Sam Altman’s Future Plans and OpenAI’s Continued Mission

Since his early twenties, 38-year-old Sam Altman has been hailed as a genius by many in the tech industry. In 2014, venture capitalist and co-founder of YCombinator, Paul Graham, approached him about becoming its head honcho.

When Graham announced that Sam Altman would be president of the incubator in 2014, he said, “Sam is one of the smartest people I know and understands startups better than perhaps anyone I know, including myself.”

At the time, Graham praised Sam Altman, calling him “one of those rare people who manage to be both fearsomely effective and yet fundamentally benevolent.”.

When OpenAI opened its doors in December 2015, it was a nonprofit research lab supported financially by Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, among others.

The organization’s objectives were to “advance digital intelligence in the way that is most likely to benefit humanity as a whole, unconstrained by a need to generate financial return.”

Shortly after launching its first generation of the GPT large language model for producing understandable paragraphs of text 2018, it changed that by incorporating a for-profit company called OpenAI LP and moving nearly all of its employees into the firm.
