(CTN News) – A source confirmed to ESPN that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will sign wide receiver Cole Beasley to their practice squad. Beasley, an 11-year veteran, will join a short-handed wide receiver corps.
Source confirms Tampa Bay Buccaneers will sign WR Cole Beasley
Following his release by the Buffalo Bills in March, Beasley did not sign with another team in the offseason as a free agent. This is because he was not signed by another team as a free agent.
As reported by NFL Network, who first reported the news of Beasley’s signing on Tuesday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are planning to add Beasley to their active roster as soon as possible.
It was reported in early March that the Bills had given Beasley permission to solicit a trade. However, he was ultimately released, resulting in about $6.1 million of salary cap space being released.
The 33-year-old Beasley will now be joining a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that will face the Packers in Week 3 without its star receiver, Mike Evans, who was suspended one game for his role in Sunday’s brawl with the Saints.
It is also pertinent to note that the Buccaneers are also dealing with injuries to veteran receivers Chris Godwin and Julio Jones. Both of these receivers missed the Bucs’ victory over the Saints due to injuries.
According to ESPN, the appeals panel will hear Evans’ one-game suspension appeal on Tuesday, confirming a report from NFL Network.
An appeals officer (James Thrash) will be appointed by both the NFL and the NFLPA, who was selected jointly by both parties.
In each of the two seasons he spent with the Bills, Beasley made 82 receptions. Over the course of his 10-year career with Buffalo and the Cowboys, he has proven to be a reliable slot receiver.
He missed a game during the 2020 season after testing positive for COVID-19 while being unvaccinated, and reportedly was fined multiple times by the NFL for violating the COVID-19 protocols during the season.
