Netflix's News Ads-Based Plan Has Almost 5 Million Users

(CTN News) – In a presentation at Netflix’s Upfront event held on Wednesday, Netflix noted that almost five million people use the service’s ad-supported tier, called Standard with ads (formerly Basic with ads), which is funded by advertisements.

Additionally, Netflix said that the number of people who have signed up for the ad-tier plan has more than doubled since we first started offering it in 2023.

Netflix’s co-CEO Greg Peters said in a news release that more than a quarter of all new subscribers who sign up now choose the ads plan in countries where it’s available. There has been a similar level of engagement on our advertising plans as with our non-advertising plans.”

The Netflix ad-supported tier was launched in November 2022, and since then, it has been growing steadily.

A similar plan from another streaming service, such as Disney Plus, will cost less than the same plan offered by HBO Max (soon to be called just Max) from Disney Plus.

As for the other tiers that are ad-supported, they cost $10 per month

Netflix’s tier only costs $7 per month.

According to Netflix, the company has almost 5 million active users in its global ad-supported plan, which is a different measurement than the number of subscribers, since one account can be used by many members of a household.

According to CNET’s Kourtnee Jackson, some of movies and TV shows were not currently available on its ad-supported tier, but that doesn’t mean that ads didn’t appear on all of content.

In addition, it is important to note that the advertisements that actually played varied in length, so one time, you might see a 30-second ad break, while the next time, you might see a 75-second ad break.

As part of last month’s upgrade, Netflix also added 1080p video quality to its ad-supported plan, up from 720p, and the ability to stream on up to two devices simultaneously to its ad-supported plan.
