North Korea Launches Its 9th Missile Test This Year
North Korea fired a ballistic missile into waters off the east of the Korean Peninsula on Saturday, according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea, its ninth such test this year.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff said the South Korean military maintains a readiness posture in preparation for future launches.
According to a statement, the missile was launched from the Sunan area near Pyongyang.
The Japan Coast Guard alerted its vessels, saying North Korea may have launched ballistic missiles.

In a statement, South Korea’s Presidential Office said the National Security Council would hold an emergency meeting on Saturday.
This marks North Korea’s ninth missile test in 2022.
Recently, international tension has risen due to a series of North Korean missile tests, actions long banned by the UN Security Council.
This is North Korea’s ninth missile test in 2022. Seven tests took place in January, including a new type of “hypersonic missile” capable of maneuvering at high speed.
The increased testing this year shows Kim is pursuing both national goals and showing the world that Pyongyang remains a player in the struggle for power and influence.
Saturday’s launch comes just days before the South Korean presidential election on March 9, in which North Korea could be a key issue.
