ChatGPT To Resume Its Operations In Italy By The End Of April
(CTN NEWS) – The leader of Italy’s privacy watchdog expressed optimism on Tuesday that OpenAI will modify its AI chatbot so that it could resume operations in the nation by the end of April.
Due to data privacy concerns, Italy’s watchdog temporarily stopped ChatGPT at the end of March, making it the first Western nation to do so. ChatGPT is a well-known artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot.
ChatGPT Can Be Back If It Makes ‘useful’ Changes
Pasquale Stanzione, director general of the Data Protection Authority, told the Corriere della Sera daily, “We are prepared to reopen ChatGPT on April 30 if there is a willingness on the part of OpenAI to take useful steps.”
“It seems that on the company’s side there is, but we’ll see,” he remarked.
When ChatGPT was introduced last year, it generated a worldwide sensation since it can generate essays, songs, examinations, and even news pieces from quick suggestions.
However, detractors have long complained that it was unclear from where ChatGPT and its rivals obtained their data or how they handled it.
The US company OpenAI, which develops ChatGPT, was criticised by Italy’s data protection authorities for having no legal justification for the extensive gathering and storage of personal data for training the algorithms that power the platform.

The authorities also emphasized a lack of transparency about the identity of the data collectors.
It claimed that incorrect responses provided by the chatbot were not being dealt with appropriately and accused the company of subjecting kids to “completely inappropriate answers.”
On Tuesday, Stanzione urged that OpenAI must “indicate a method to reduce the risk of wrong answers” and that users’ ages must be confirmed.
Users should be “clearly informed that their data is being used for a specific purpose, the training of the algorithm”, he continued.
A multibillion dollar partnership with Microsoft, which utilises the technology in its Bing search engine and other programmes, was made possible by the astronomical success of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
With Google rushing to release its own chatbot and investors pouring money into a wide range of AI initiatives, it also prompted a gold rush among other tech companies and venture capitalists.
