Thai PM Warns of New Narcotic Drug Being Sold on Social Media
(CTN News) – The Prime Minister of Thailand, General Prayut Chan-o-cha, has issued a public warning about a new narcotic drug being marketed online and has urged authorities to keep a careful eye on the situation.
Anyone caught distributing or posting material promoting illegal drug use faces up to 2 years in prison and/or a fine of 200,000 Thai Baht.
ONCB Reports Sale of Powdered Ecstasy on Social Media
According to the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), Powdered ecstasy is reportedly being marketed on social media. The drug is typically smuggled into homes in the sachets of other products, like instant coffee, collagen drinks, and electrolyte drinks.
The ONCB claims that the accounts hawking this narcotic accept orders via WhatsApp. Despite the seller’s lack of transparency on shipping to Thailand, the ONCB has discovered that Thai TikTok users have contacted them to place orders.
Thai social media users have been asked by the Prime Minister not to place orders or share messages regarding drug offerings, and the ONCB and Royal Thai Police have been given strict orders to rigorously monitor the distribution of this narcotic.
Any Thai citizen proven to have promoted narcotic narcotics online faces up to 2 years in prison, a fine of up to 200,000 baht, or both. Anyone caught dealing drugs in Thailand or elsewhere will face severe penalties.
Dangers of Using the Narcotic Drug
When used repeatedly, this opioid can destroy the nervous system, resulting in a low mood, mental disease, and even suicidal thoughts. The medicine could be lethal if combined with alcohol or other substances.
