Cathay Pacific Plants 999 Mangrove Trees In Thailand
(CTN News) – Cathay Pacific has planted 999 mangrove trees in Khlong Khon Mangrove Forest in Samut Songkram, central Thailand as part of its “1 Ticket, 1 Tree” initiative. Last year, the airline committed to planting a tree for every plane ticket purchased within a month. Last week, about 50 volunteers planted 999 saplings, including Cathay Pacific staff and trade agents.
By planting trees, Cathay Pacific hopes to at least offset some of the carbon it emits into the atmosphere with its fleet of 186 aircraft. It aims to achieve “greener aviation” by 2050 by reducing carbon emissions to zero.
According to their website, they are “one of the first airlines in Asia to set a carbon neutrality timeline.”
The Cathay Pacific Country Manager for Thailand and Myanmar, Keri Lui, took part in the tree-planting event…
Our contribution to Thailand’s mangrove restoration efforts is a privilege. In order to save the environment, every effort counts, and we are proud to be leading the way while giving back to the communities that we serve. Thanks to our customers who supported this initiative by flying with us.”
Also present was the chairman of the Klong Khon Mangrove Forest Center…
We are delighted to have good corporate citizens like Cathay Pacific on board with our efforts to preserve and restore our mangrove forests. In addition to protecting coastlines and removing carbon dioxide, these forests will benefit local communities and our ecosystem for many generations to come.”
