Putin’s Nuclear Alert Is ‘Dangerous’ and ‘Irresponsible,’ Says NATO Chief: Report

Putin's Nuclear

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has described Russian President Vladimir Putin’s nuclear threat as “dangerous” and irresponsible, local media has reported. Putin put Russian nuclear forces on alert on Sunday, February 27, in response to what he called “aggressive statements” by leading NATO nations.

The Russian President’s order to put the country’s nuclear weapons in an increased state of readiness for launching spiked fears that the crisis could turn into nuclear warfare. Meanwhile, amid this, Ukraine has announced to hold talks with Russia as Moscow drew closer to Kyiv.

Putin mentioned both statements made by NATO members as well as severe financial sanctions imposed by the West, including those against him. When he met with top officials, he told his defense minister and the Army chief to place nuclear forces under a “special regime of combat duty.”

Western countries aren’t just taking unfriendly actions against our country in the economic sphere, but NATO leaders made aggressive statements about us,” Putin said on television.

Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s office said that the Ukrainian side is ready to hold border talks with Belarus around the same time as Putin’s nuclear move. The Russian delegation had already left for Belarus, according to a Russian official.

Putin’s Nuclear threat an attempt to put pressure ahead of negotiations’: Dmytro Kuleba

Putin’s nuclear threat is the result of an attempt to put pressure on the negotiations, according to Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Minister Dmytro Kuleba. Putin’s announcement was made shortly after Ukraine was ready to meet.

“We will not succumb to this pressure,” he said.

According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine has filed a complaint with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against Russia. In his request for an urgent decision, he demanded that Moscow cease its military activities. He expects the trial to begin next week.
