What To Watch: American Express Earnings And PCE Data

(CTN News) – Including American Express (AXP) earnings, PCE and pending home sales economic prints, Yahoo Finance’s Josh Lipton and Julie Hyman preview the top stories investors should pay attention to on Friday, January 26.

JOSH LIPTON: Now let’s see what to watch on Friday, January 26. The following companies will report earnings tomorrow: American Express, Colgate Palmolive, First Citizens Bank, and Oppenheimer. Watch out for American Express.

American Express has remained relatively unchanged this year.

It provides a good indication of the high-end consumer state. In comparison to a year ago, analysts expect both revenue and earnings to increase.

In regards to the economy, tomorrow morning we will have new Personal Consumption Expenditures, or PCE, data. As the Fed’s preferred inflation indicator, it gives us a better indication of when the first rate cut might take place. Furthermore, it is the last opportunity to examine inflation before next week’s meeting of the Federal Reserve.

In addition, the monthly pending home sales data will be released tomorrow. It is expected that December sales will increase by 2% following a flat performance in November.

As a result of the recent increase in mortgage rates, this news comes as a surprise. The 30-year fixed rate is currently at 6.69%.

Finally, you can tune into American Express “Good Buy or Goodbye” tomorrow at 3:30 PM Eastern, where we will help you navigate the best moves for your portfolio. I know you will be focusing on pending home sales when it comes to what to watch.

Julie Hyman: Housing, Josh Lipton. A new home sales report was received today. Therefore, seasonally adjusted numbers for December increased by 8% to 664,000. Those numbers are in line with the annual average.

The number of inventories remains high, according to American Express economists. Tomorrow, pending home sales will be announced, right? Existing homes have been sold as a result. Economists recommend an increase of 2%.
