Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni Announces Separation Amidst Partner’s Scandal
(CTN NEWS) – In a surprising turn of events, Italy’s Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, took to social media to announce the end of her nearly 10-year relationship with her long-time partner, Andrea Giambruno.
This announcement followed the broadcast of explicit off-air comments made by Giambruno on a popular TV show. The separation and the surrounding controversy have captured the attention of both the Italian public and the international media.
The couple’s relationship began in 2015, and over the years, they welcomed a daughter, Ginevra, who is now seven years old.
Meloni’s Gratitude and Resilience Amidst Separation
In her social media post, Meloni expressed her gratitude towards Giambruno for the years they spent together, the challenges they faced, and most importantly, for their daughter. She acknowledged that their paths had diverged over time and felt it was the right moment to part ways.
Meloni also used the opportunity to address those who may have attempted to weaken her politically by targeting her family. She drew an analogy, stating that while a water drop can hope to break a rock, a rock will always be a rock, suggesting her resilience amidst adversity.

Giambruno, a 41-year-old TV host, found himself embroiled in controversy after a satirical TV program, Striscia La Notizia, aired his off-camera comments, which included apparent flirtations with female colleagues.
These comments raised questions about his conduct and ethics. In one instance, he told a colleague, “You’re so clever… Why didn’t I meet you sooner?” More explicit off-air comments included references to an affair and lewd remarks about group sex.
The controversy surrounding Giambruno’s off-air remarks intensified when he asked another colleague if she was single or in an open relationship. Despite concerns from others about being recorded, Giambruno seemed dismissive, saying they were just joking around.
Giambruno has not publicly responded to either the prime minister’s separation announcement or the controversy surrounding his off-air comments. This isn’t the first time he has faced backlash for his remarks.
Previously, he was accused of victim-blaming when he suggested that young women could avoid certain problems, including assault, by not getting drunk.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni defended him during that previous incident, claiming that his words were misinterpreted and requested that she not be held accountable for his statements made during his professional capacity.
Giorgia Meloni’s Staunch Opposition to Same-Sex Parenting Sparks Political Controversy
Giorgia Meloni, known for her strong adherence to traditional Catholic family values, has consistently opposed same-sex parenting.
Her political opponents, such as Alessandro Zan, an MP from the center-left Democratic Party and an advocate for LGBTQ rights, have criticized her for her stance.
Following her announcement, Meloni received support from her political allies, including Matteo Salvini, her deputy, who sent his “friendship and support” and urged her to “go forward with her head held high.”
Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani also offered his support and sent her a message of solidarity.
Antonio Ricci, the creator of Striscia La Notizia, suggested that Meloni would eventually realize that he did her a favor. This intriguing statement leaves room for speculation about the motivations behind broadcasting Giambruno’s off-air comments.
The controversy surrounding Andrea Giambruno, the Mediaset TV host, has reignited concerns about the culture of sexism and machismo in Italian media, reminiscent of the era when the network was owned by the controversial former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
Critics have accused Berlusconi of degrading Italian television with his approach to gender and sexism.
The drama surrounding Giorgia Meloni and Andrea Giambruno continues to captivate public attention and raises questions about the intersection of personal relationships and political life in the era of social media and instant communication.
