AirAsia Diverts Flight After Snake Discovered in Cabin
AirAsia diverted a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Tawau, Malaysia last week after a snake was seen in one of its overhead compartments.
The airline said the flight’s captain decided to divert the aircraft to Kuching, Sarawak, as soon as he became aware of the incident.
In a statement, AirAsia said the flight diversion was a precautionary measure to fumigate the aircraft.
TikTok user @edal8808 shared a video showing what appeared to be a snake slithering through an overhead light fixture.
AirAsia Captian Praised by Aviation Authority
AirAsia’s chief safety officer, Capt Liong Tien Ling, said in a statement on Friday, “This is a very rare incident that can happen from time to time on any aircraft.”
He added that the Captain took the proper action in order to ensure the safety and well-being of their guests and crew.
Malaysia’s Civil Aviation Authority praised the Captain’s handling of the situation. More than two million people have viewed the video on TikTok. A few viewers commented that it reminded them of the 2006 Samuel L. Jackson action film “Snakes on a Plane.”
Even though snakes on planes are rare, they do happen from time to time. A real snake on a plane got loose in 2017 on a flight to Alaska.
