Thailand Will Not Attend President Biden’s Summit for Democracy
Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the absence of an invitation from the United States to participate in the Summit for Democracy will not alter Thailand’s commitment to democratic values and human rights.
Tanee Sangrat, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Thailand is fully aware of the gathering hosted by U.S. President Biden. Thailand is not concerned about whether its country would be invited since the decision rests entirely with the United States government.
Thailand’s ministry has reassured citizens that Thailand remains committed to democracy and human rights on a par with other democratic nations. Furthermore, he mentioned Thailand’s participation in globally recognized events like the Bali Democracy Forum.
Meanwhile, Minister of Foreign Affairs Don Pramudwinai elaborated yesterday on his recent visit to Myanmar, which he called a humanitarian mission because he was there to deliver Covid supplies.
In addition to pointing out that the Summit for Democracy is the latest international political platform being spearheaded by the United States, he added that sometimes not being invited is more beneficial.
