Police Take Down Million Dollar Illegal Online Gambling Site

An illegal online gambling operation in northeastern Thailand was shut down after police raided 10 premises on Tuesday. Five suspects were arrested, and assets worth approximately 100 million baht, including 14 luxury cars, were impounded as evidence.

Provincial Police Commissioner Somprasong Yenthuam told reporters that the 10 properties police searched were in the provinces of Nakhon Ratchasima, Surin, Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani.

Raids were part of a probe into the illegal online gambling website 123plus, which was offering online baccarat card games and accepting bets.

The five suspects have been charged with operating illegal online gambling sites and money laundering. Three other suspects are being sought, he said.

According to Pol Lt Gen Somprasong, more than 14 luxury cars, nine motorcycles, five rifles, four pistols, and 219 rounds of ammunition were seized in the online gambling site raids.

Meanwhile, police arrested 16 people at a Hat Yai townhouse in southern Thailand on Monday on charges of gambling and crowding in violation of the Covid-19 emergency decree.

A group of local officials, volunteers, police, and members of the Hat Yai district’s security force raided the townhouse in the Thungsao community at 8 pm.

16 people were caught playing cards in a room on the second floor of the house. As evidence, 15 decks of cards and 14,400 baht were seized from the five men and 11 women.

According to a police officer who arrested them, the gamblers were confined to an air-conditioned room without outside ventilation, which put them at risk of spreading Covid-19.
