Police Officer Seriously Injured After Crashing into Rear of Lorry
On Wednesday night, shortly after midnight, an Honda HR-V SUV that was driven by an off-duty police investigator smashed into the rear of another vehicle on a road in central Thailand.
The other vehicle, believed to be a truck, fled the scene before emergency responders arrived.
Samut Prakan Police investigator Pol Capt Sanhawat Kaewduangdee said the accident occurred at 12.30 am in Tambon Bang Phli Yai near kilometre marker 11 of inbound Thepparat road (Bang Na-Trat Road).
A black Honda HR-V was found stalled in the middle lane with damage to its front, according to the police.
Pol Lt Saharat Kongmee, the deputy chief investigator at Udomsuk police station in
Samut Prakan was trapped in the driver’s seat. His injuries were severe and he was rendered unconscious.
Hydraulic jacks were used to remove him from the crumpled car, and he was rushed to Chularat 1 Suvarnabhumi Hospital for treatment.
The vehicle, also thought to be a lorry, was struck by the Honda HR-V SUV and left the scene, leaving some damaged pieces of bumper behind.
To determine the cause of the accident, Samut Prakan police examined footage from security cameras in the area. They were also looking for the lorry and its driver.
