NAKHON SI THAMMARAT – Royal Thai Police are investigating the alleged gang rape of a Scottish woman on Friday morning in Nakhon Si Thammarat.
The woman was found crying on the balcony of the shophouse in which she was allegedly raped in Muang district about 6am on Friday.
She appeared drunk and was wearing a T-shirt and a long skirt, police said. She had scratch marks on her knee and elbow.
The woman told police she and her boyfriend, also Scottish, had been drinking until late in the evening at a bar.
After leaving the bar, they went to Nakhon Wiang Jan restaurant but were denied entry by security guards because they were too inebriated. Her boyfriend then returned to their apartment, but the woman decided to stay out.
The woman said a pickup truck with four young men in it stopped while she was walking past a shophouse. The men then dragged her inside the shophouse where at least two of them raped her, she told police.
Pol Lt Col Niti Boonchan, chief investigator of Muang district police, said the woman and her boyfriend had been renting an apartment in the downtown area.
Security guards at the Rock 99 restaurant said they turned the woman away because she was heavily intoxicated. She became angry, started shouting and threw a wallet into the restaurant, they told investigators.
The wallet contained 6,000 baht in cash and has been handed over to police.
Pol Lt Col Niti said the woman was being examined at Maharat Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital for signs of rape. Results are expected within three days.
