Thai Customs Nabs Two Pakistani Men with Heroin and Ketamine

Customs officials at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport arrested two Pakistani men after heroin and ketamine worth about 95 million baht were found hidden inside packets of powdered tea in their bags upon arrival.

Patchara Anuntasilpa, the director-general of the Customs Department, and representatives of the Narcotics Control Board and the Narcotics Suppression Bureau announced the arrests on Tuesday.

The men arrested were 26 and 35 years of age. Their names were not released.

According to Mr Patchara, they had flown from Jinnah International Airport in Karachi via Dubai International Airport to Bangkok on an Emirates flight that landed at Suvarnabumiu on Monday.

According to Mr Patchara, customs officers found 1.1 kilogrammes of heroin and 30.6 kilograms of ketamine in a package of powdered tea. The drugs were valued at around 95 million baht.

They admitted that a Pakistani man paid them 20,000 each to bring the luggage into Thailand, according to media reports. Someone was supposed to come to collect the bags after they passed through customs.

According to Mr Patchara, the investigation is being extended to find the major players.
