Buc-ee's to Break Ground On Smiths Grove Travel Center

(CTN News) – There will be another Buc-ee’s restaurant in Kentucky within the next few months!

Buc-ee’s, a popular travel center known for quality restrooms, fresh food, a large number of gas pumps, and the friendliest beaver in the Bluegrass State, announced Monday that Smiths Grove will house their second location in that state; Buc-ee’s Richmond opened in April 2022.

According to a press release from, the company will start construction on its Smiths Grove location at 10:30 a.m. Central Standard Time (CST) on Monday, June 5.

There will be a ceremony on site to commemorate the start of the construction process, which will be attended by leaders from local and state governments who contributed to the success of the project.

As part of the groundbreaking ceremony in Smiths Grove, a number of Buc-ee representatives are expected to attend. Rocky Adkins, Senior Advisor to Governor Andy Beshear of Kentucky, Mayor David Stiffey, City Commissioners Bob Buehl, Buddy Marr, Steve Roney, and Eric Schroader, Warren County Judge-Executive Doug Gorman, and former Warren County Judge-Executive Mike Buchanon, will be attending.

Buc-Ee’s Smiths Grove will be located at 4001 Smiths Grove-Scottsville Road and will occupy 53,471 square feet.

The store will have 120 fueling positions and a selection of favorites, including Texas barbeque, homemade fudge, kolaches, Beaver Nuggets, jerky and fresh pastries.

As the General Manager of Buc-ee’s says, “We are thrilled to be able to launch a new restaurant on the beautiful Interstate 65 stretch between Nashville and Louisville in Western Kentucky,” said Stan Beard.

Having a Buc-ee’s restaurant in Smiths Grove will make it the smallest town with the distinction of having a Buc-ee’s restaurant in it. We have a big heart just like it, so we’re going to get along just fine. It has a big heart just like we do. ”

There are expected to be at least 200 jobs created by Smiths Grove, with starting salaries higher than minimum wage, full benefits, a 6% matching 401k, as well as three weeks of paid vacation for each employee.

The opening date of the facility, however, has not yet been announced.

There are 45 Buc-ee’s restaurants across Texas and the South, with having been founded in 1983 in Texas. With the start of the multi-state expansion in 2019, the travel center began opening stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

The Buc-ee’s travel center is expanding to the west in the near future, and in the near future both Missouri and Colorado will receive Buc-ee’s locations.
