Thai Police Task Force Arrests 28 Foreign Criminals Listed on Interpol Red Notices

BANGKOK – Thai immigration Chief, Maj-General Surachate Hakpal along with Pol General Torsak Sa-ardpak have told a press briefing that a police task force has arrested 28 fugitives fleeing prosecution in their countries and going into hiding in the kingdom.

The 28 criminals of 14 different nationalities were listed in Interpol’s Red Notice, Pol General Torsak Sa-ardpak, director of a police task force against transnational criminals, said on Thursday.

The 28 fugitives are from China, Czech, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Russia, South Korea, Turkey, the UK and the US, wanted for offenses including homicide, illicit drug, cyber-crime and fraud.

It was a collaboration of Thai law enforcement agencies, their counterparts, foreign embassies and the Interpol, he said.

Interpol published Red Notices to inform all member countries that a person is sought for prosecution or to serve a sentence.

Pol General Sa-ardpak said 75 percent of those in hiding in Thailand had been apprehended.

It was an operation to eliminate foreign criminals trying to make Thailand their safe haven, he added.

The fugitives will have their visas revoked before being extradited to face prosecution in their home countries.
