Stupid Credit Card Scammers Arrested During Songkran
PHUKET – Two French nationals and a Tunisian have been arrested on charges of credit card fraud in Phuket, and a Vietnamese man for stealing from revellers during the Songkran celebration on Silom Road.
Supaseth Chokchai, deputy commander of the Tourist Police Division, said in Phuket on Monday that police arrested Mhoussin Mahamoud, Ganzouhai Zaidim, both French nationals, and Adjemi Ramzi, a Tunisian citizen, in Phuket.
They were members of a gang that came to the resort island during the Songkran holiday to use fake credit cards to cash money.
Police seized 27 items from them – including a computer, electronic card readers, 70 fake credit cards with pin codes, marijuana and 6,000 euros and 134,000 baht in cash. Each card could withdraw about 200,000 baht, according to Pol Col Supaseth.
Pol Col Supaseth said the three entered Thailand as tourists during the festival, installed the skimmers and  stole card details from users of ATM machines, then made fake cards using their details.
The three were sent to Thung Thong police station for legal action.
In Bangkok, Nguyen Minth Tu, a Vietnamese man, was arrested by Bang Rak police on a charge of stealing money from Songkran revellers in the Silom Road area on Sunday, Thung Thong chief Pol Col Rattchapol Bunnag said.
The suspect used a blade to cut into bags and pockets and steal from revellers, he said. Police received complaints about him on Sunday. They spotted him stealing and arrested him, he said.
