CHIANG RAI – Thailand’s Seismological Bureau reported a mild earthquake in Myanmar triggered three mild tremors before dawn in Chiang Rai and a very mild on quake was also detected in Chiang Mai.

The Seismological Bureau reported the first 1.1 magnitude quake in San Sai district of Chiang Mai at 3.10am.

Thirty minutes later, a 3.0 magnitude quake was detected in Myanmar, centred about 361 kilometres northwest of Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai.

Then at 5.07am, a 3.2 magnitude shake occurred in Mae Lao district of Chaing Rai at a depth of one kilometre underground. Nine minutes later, a 2.1 magnitude tremor was detected in the same district at about 2 kilometres depth.

The latest in the series occurred at 5.20am in Muang district with a 1.4 magnitude quake seven kilometres below ground. There were no reports of damage.

Chiang Rai governor Boonsong Techamaneesathis instructed district chiefs and the local Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office to inspect the areas and advise if any assistace was needed.
