Johnstown, Colorado Kroger Opens New Spoke Facility

(CTN News) – The US-based retail company Kroger has announced the opening of a new spoke facility in Johnstown, Colorado, enabling it to expand its delivery service to the northern part of the state.

With a floor area of approximately 57,000ft2, this facility will work alongside the fulfillment facility in Aurora, Colorado, to fulfil customer orders.

In addition to Kroger’s wide selection of fresh items, the new facility will also offer a variety of national brands and Kroger’s own-brand items.

It is estimated that the facility will employ nearly 70 associates who will assemble orders for delivery to Johnstown on refrigerated trucks.

In order to make deliveries, each Delivery van can hold up to 20 orders and is capable of travelling up to 90 minutes to make deliveries from the hub and spoke facilities.

Matt LeCerf, the Johnstown Town manager, explained: “Kroger has built a fulfillment facility that is unmatched in our area.

As a result of this facility, both our community as well as the immediate surrounding area will be able to meet their needs at the same time.

It has been a pleasure to work with the Kroger family and our partners at this facility, and we are excited to welcome them to Johnstown soon. Taking part in their success is something we are very excited about.”

The expansion into Northern Colorado is a result of a collaboration between Kroger and Ocado Group, which was announced in 2018.

Artificial intelligence, advanced robotics and automation are all used as part of the partnership’s delivery network.

At the present time, Kroger operates four customer fulfillment centers in Monroe, Ohio, Groveland, Florida, Forest Park, Atlanta, as well as Dallas, Texas.

There are plans for the company to expand its customer fulfilment network facilities in the near future.
