Nvidia Reports EU, China, And France Regulators Seek Graphic Card Info.
(CTN News) – In a regulatory filing, Nvidia disclosed that regulators from the European Union, China, and France have requested information regarding their graphic cards.
The chip giant anticipates more requests to come in the future. Nvidia is known for being the top producer of chips used for both computer graphics and artificial intelligence.
The release of ChatGPT, a generative AI application, has led to a surge in demand for their chips. With a market share of approximately 80%, Nvidia’s chips and hardware, along with their software, are highly sought after.
Nvidia’s powerful graphics cards (GPUs) are well-known for their ability to handle complex graphics rendering and processing. These GPUs are widely used in video editing, gaming, and other intricate computing tasks.
As a result, the company has attracted significant attention from regulatory bodies around the world.
According to a regulatory filing on November 21, Nvidia has revealed that the French Competition Authority is closely examining its business operations and competition in the graphics card and cloud service provider market.
This investigation is part of an ongoing effort to understand the dynamics of competition in these markets. In September, the French watchdog even conducted a surprise visit to the local office, according to a reliable source cited by Reuters.
In the filing, Nvidia stated that it has also been approached by regulators in the European Union and China for information regarding the sales of GPUs and supply allocation. Furthermore, the company anticipates receiving more requests for information in the future.
Additionally, two sources familiar with the matter informed Reuters that has postponed the release of a new AI chip specifically designed for the Chinese market.
