HUA HIN – A Thai Couple have been arrested in this resort town of Hua Hin on Saturday with more than 100 items that police say were mostly stolen from foreigners, Pol Col Chaikorn Sriladeecho, the Hua Hin police superintendent, told the Bangkok Post.

Police arrested Thawalchai Thawilsuk, 37, and Surintra Khumsup, 31, at their rented house in Hua Hin and seized goods including iPhones and iPads, laptop PCs, cameras, purses, gold necklaces, wristwatches and passports. A number of pawn shop tickets were also found at the scene.

The arrests followed investigations into more than 30 complaints registered at the Hua Hin police station by local residents and foreigners.

Pol Col Chaikorn Sriladeecho, the Hua Hin police superintendent, said after questioning the pair that they had broken into several places over a period of six months. Most of the targets were houses where foreigners liveed, he added.

They rode their motorcycle around housing estates and other locations looking for likely targets and would break into the houses after the owners went out during the day or at night, he said. They sold the stolen items at pawn shops in Hua Hin and neighboring districts, he added.

Mr Thawalchai and Miss Surintra were charged with burglary.

Many foreigners went to the police station to look for their goods after learning of the arrests.
