One Soldier Dead, Five More Wounded in Bomb Ambush in Pattani
PATTANI – One soldier was killed and five wounded after their vehicle was ambushed by a bomb attack while they were on patrol duty in Pattani’s Nong Chik district.
Police said the soldiers, dispatched from Santisuk Centre, were on highway number 43 in Bo Thong subdistrict when their vehicle was hit by bomb hidden on the roadside.
The national police chief has also instructed authorities to speed up the installation of CCTV camerasThe explosion killed one soldier, identified as Maj Ittipol Khammongkol, and wounded five others who were later sent to Nong Chik Hospital.
According to an initial investigation, the explosive device was buried on the road and it was triggered when the vehicle arrived at the targeted location.
At Sirindhorn Camp in Pattani’s Yarang district, the 4th Army Region Commander Lt Gen Sakol Chuentrakul said that the 4th Region Forward Command of the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) has realised the importance of Ramadan and would provide security to those who had to travel during the holy month.
Meanwhile, National Police Chief Pol Gen Adul Saengsingkaew has travelled to the nearby province of Yala to follow up on the situation after the Southern Border Provinces Police Operation Center deployed 3,000 new police officers to the three southernmost provinces.
