US And Israel Discussing New Phase Of Gaza Conflict.

(CTN News) – US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan held a meeting on Tuesday with Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer to discuss a shift “to a different phase” of the Israel-Hamas war, as stated by a White House official.

The purpose of the meeting was to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and minimize the impact on civilians. The official, who preferred to remain anonymous, mentioned that the meeting aimed to focus on targeting high-value Hamas objectives and transitioning to a new phase of the conflict.

This discussion follows the recent adoption of a diluted resolution by the UN Security Council, which called for the delivery of aid to the Gaza Strip on a significant scale.

Currently, the 2.4 million people in Gaza are facing severe shortages of water, food, fuel, and medicine, with only limited assistance being provided.

The deadliest conflict in Gaza’s history began when Hamas launched an assault on southern Israel on October 7, resulting in the deaths of approximately 1,140 individuals, predominantly civilians, as reported by Israeli sources according to an AFP calculation.

Out of the 250 hostages taken, 129 are still held captive within Gaza. The Sullivan-Dermer meeting also addressed the efforts to secure their release.

Following the Hamas attack, Israel responded with a widespread aerial bombardment and subsequently initiated a ground invasion.

As per Gaza’s health ministry, the ongoing campaign has claimed the lives of 20,915 individuals.

Moreover, the meeting on Tuesday provided an opportunity for Israel and the United States to discuss matters concerning the future governance and security of Gaza, the establishment of a political framework for the Palestinian people, and the continuous efforts toward normalization and integration, as stated by a White House official.
